This statement keeps the public part and the protected parts apart, because one statement about both would demonstrably be untrue.
Measured on 2026-10-17: the site sets no cookie at all. There is no document.cookie
in the source code, the server sends no Set-Cookie with the pages, and a fresh browser
holds no cookie after loading the globe.
That is not a cookie — it is never sent to the server and does not leave your device. It is there
so that the site remembers how you set it up. After a first visit only aion.basemap is
present; the others appear once you change the setting they remember.
| key | what for | whose |
|---|---|---|
aion.basemap | which map layer you chose (written on the first visit, with the default) | ours |
aion.welcomed | whether you have already seen the welcome message | ours |
aion.prefs | which map layers you switched on or off, and the page language | ours |
aion.rail2.open | which sections of the side panel you left open | ours |
aion12-sound | whether you switched the sound effects on | ours |
olympus-appearance | your text size, page width and colour choice in the appearance panel (shared by the pages on eanna.house) | ours |
The globe is drawn by CesiumJS, a library that can store a key of its own
(cesium-hasSeenNavHelp) when its navigation help is shown. Aion has that help switched
off, and the 2026-10-17 measurement found no such key. It is named here because a list that only
covered our own code would be incomplete.
You can clear these keys at any time through your browser's storage settings. The site then simply keeps working and starts from the default settings.
Behind the login, authelia_session is set. It is functionally necessary: without that
cookie the login cannot be remembered. It holds no profile and is not used for statistics. These parts
are not meant for visitors.
