Banaue Rice Terraces
Wet-rice terraces cut into the mountains of Ifugao in the northern Philippines, fed by an irrigation system running off the forest above. Long presented as two thousand years old; radiocarbon dating puts them four centuries back instead, and reads them as a response to Spanish invasion rather than a relic of deep antiquity.
