Dove Lake (Cradle Mountain)
A glacially carved lake below Cradle Mountain in Tasmania's Central Highlands. During the Last Glacial Maximum an independent ice cap covered the Central Plateau, and an outlet glacier flowing from Cradle Mountain's north face ended here, gouging the basin the lake now fills.
Dated events and their evidence
- 19,000 BCE mainstream
Tasmania's Central Plateau ice cap near its Last Glacial Maximum extent (Kiernan 1999); Cradle Mountain's own glaciers, part of the same regional glaciation, carved the basin that Dove Lake now fills.
