Ephesus
Major Greco-Roman port city on Turkey's Aegean coast, home to the Library of Celsus and once to the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World; an early centre of Christianity that gradually emptied out as its harbour silted up, leaving the marble city stranded inland.
