Joya de Cerén
A pre-Hispanic Maya farming village in El Salvador buried under volcanic ash from the Laguna Caldera eruption around 600 CE - the airtight seal preserved wooden structures, plant fibres, kitchens and household goods in extraordinary detail, giving archaeologists a rare snapshot of ordinary Maya daily life rather than the palaces and temples that usually survive.
