Kambalda nickel field
The type locality of komatiite-hosted nickel, on Lake Lefroy in the Western Australian Goldfields. The 1966 discovery of nickel sulphide here led to Australia's first nickel mine; the ores formed where Archean lava rivers melted their way into sulphide-rich sediments.
