Kotor
A fortified medieval harbour town on Montenegro's Adriatic coast, regarded as the best-preserved medieval urban centre in the Mediterranean - first settled by Illyrian tribes, later passing through Byzantine, Venetian, Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian control, its 4.5km outer wall ranking among the most impressive Venetian military fortifications anywhere.
