La Tène
Lakeshore site on Lake Neuchâtel, Switzerland, discovered in 1857 when the lake's water level was artificially lowered - over 2,500 weapons, tools and ornaments recovered from the shallows, apparently votive offerings thrown from a collapsed wooden bridge, gave their name to the La Tène culture, the archaeologically defined final phase of the Iron Age Celtic world.
