Makimuku Ruins
Late Yayoi to early Kofun settlement at the north-west foot of Mount Miwa in Sakurai, Nara Prefecture, Japan, running from the 2nd to the 4th century. Surveys since 1971 have traced six settlement and tomb groups linked by one water system, together with traces of deliberate urban planning and a large 3rd-century building. It is the leading candidate for Yamatai, the polity named in Chinese records. Only about 5 percent had been excavated as of December 2008. Coordinates: article and Wikidata agree at 34.5461/135.8402.
