Nineveh
Capital of the Neo-Assyrian Empire near modern Mosul, Iraq, and by most accounts the wealthiest city on Earth at its height under Sennacherib around 700 BCE, with elaborate palaces and advanced water infrastructure - until a coalition of Babylonians and Medes destroyed it in 612 BCE, ending Assyrian imperial power.
