Archaeological Site of Panamá Viejo
Founded by conquistador Pedrarias Davila as the first European settlement on the Pacific coast of the Americas, the city thrived as a hub for gold and silver shipped from Peru to Spain until the pirate Henry Morgan sacked and burned it, forcing survivors to relocate the city to a nearby peninsula, now Panama's Casco Viejo.
