Rani ki Vav
Stepwell at Patan in Gujarat, commissioned by Queen Udayamati in 1063 and built downward as an inverted temple: seven storeys of stairs and carved panels descending to the water. The Saraswati silted it over and it lay buried for centuries, which is why the sculpture came out of the ground almost unweathered.
