Ratu Boko
Hilltop archaeological complex on a plateau about 3 km south of Prambanan, with stone gateways, terraces, bathing pools, walled enclosures and rock-cut caves. An inscription dated 792 records a Buddhist monastery, the Abhayagiri Vihara, founded on this hill under Rakai Panangkaran. In the 9th century the site was apparently turned into a fortified residence, which is why it is often called a palace.
