Tallinn Old Town
One of Europe's best-preserved medieval town centres, its walled Lower Town and hilltop Upper Town founded around a 13th-century Teutonic Order castle - Tallinn (then Reval) grew immensely wealthy from 1285 as the northernmost Hanseatic League outpost, its merchant houses, guild halls and church towers still largely intact from that era.
