Torihama Shell Mound
Waterlogged Jomon midden at Wakasa, Fukui Prefecture, Japan, occupied from the Incipient to the Early Jomon period, roughly 12,000 to 5,000 years ago. Waterlogging preserved wood, fibre and plant remains that ordinary sites lose, making it a principal source on early Japanese plant use between about 7500 and 3500 BC. Dug by Doshisha and Rikkyo universities from 1962 to 1972, then by the Fukui Prefectural Board of Education from 1975. Coordinates: Wikidata 35.5543/135.9007; the article gives 35.560/135.896, 0.7 km away.
