Colonies of Benevolence (Veenhuizen)
A 19th-century social-reform experiment: agricultural colonies built to resettle orphans, beggars and the urban poor in remote countryside as an alternative to city poverty. Veenhuizen, in Drenthe, was an 'unfree' colony for orphans and vagrants; the wider UNESCO listing also covers sites in Belgium.
