Dutch Water Defence Lines
A defensive system of 96 forts working with dikes, sluices, pumping stations and deliberately flood-able polders, built 1815-1940 to protect Amsterdam and the Dutch heartland by inundation rather than walls. Inscribed in 1996 (as the Defence Line of Amsterdam) and expanded in 2021 to include the New Dutch Waterline.
