What you can expect from this site, and what not.
Last changed: 17 October 2026. Version 2.2: the English translation of version 2.1 (4 October 2026). The content is unchanged.
Aion is a private project without any commercial purpose. It runs on its own hardware, is maintained by one person and is not a company, institution or publisher. There is no editorial team and no customer service. Questions, corrections and reports go through the contact page.
Aion is an exploration of deep time: places, impacts, disasters and climate periods on a map and a timeline. It is a reference and wonder project, not a scientific publication, not teaching material with learning objectives and not an official source.
Do not use the content as the only basis for decisions that matter. This applies in particular to navigation, fieldwork, entering sites, and legal, medical, financial or academic choices. Coordinates are indicative and sometimes deliberately point to a nearby place instead of an exact find spot.
Every date carries a grade that says how firm it is — for example mainstream for a widely accepted dating and speculative for a disputed or provisional one. Where a published margin exists, it is given instead of only a round number.
That grade is part of the content, not decoration. Taking over a speculative date without its grade misrepresents what is stated here.
Aion brings together material from many sources: encyclopaedias, museums, archives, scientific journals, geological surveys and free image libraries. That material remains the property of its rights holders and carries its own licence. That licence applies, not this page.
ATTRIBUTION files. If you want to reuse such material, follow the licence of the source holder — not that of Aion.
"Aion's own content" means the self-written summaries, the selection and arrangement of the data, the grades and the code — not the material from section 4.
All rights reserved. You may freely view the site, link to it and quote from it with attribution (“Aion, aion.eanna.house”) and with the grade of what you quote (section 3). Taking over larger parts — a series of summaries, the dataset, the code — requires permission: ask through the contact page. For a non-commercial purpose the answer is probably yes. A broader open licence may follow later; this page will then announce it with a new version.
A wrong date, a wrong source, a missing attribution or an image that should not be here: report it and it will be corrected or removed. This also applies to rights holders who believe their material has been included wrongly.
With a request, state the page or item, what it concerns and why. There is no formal procedure and no waiting period; this is a private project and such requests get priority.
There is no account, no login, no payment and no profile. What is processed is described in the privacy statement and the cookie statement; where they would contradict this page, they take precedence.
Features that send something out — such as read-aloud or a contact form — carry their own promise where you use them. If such a promise and this page conflict, the promise at the feature applies.
Aion constantly links to sources outside the site. Those sites belong to others, have their own terms and are not checked or endorsed by Aion. A source link means "this is where this comes from", not "I vouch for this".
Aion is offered as is, without any warranty of accuracy, completeness or availability. It runs on its own hardware and can be slow, down or broken without notice. Data can change or disappear. There is no commitment about retention periods, backups or a permanent URL.
Liability for damage arising from the use of the site or of the data is excluded to the extent the law allows. This exclusion does not apply in case of intent or deliberate recklessness.
These terms may change. The version and the date at the top say which one applies. A change does not apply retroactively.
Dutch law applies to these terms and to the use of Aion. Mandatory consumer law of the country where you live continues to apply in full.
